review...
(The Crack In The Cosmic Egg) So, wind-on six years to their
second album:
Energie Programm In Rock which still had three original members, with Klaus
Holst's notably Faust-like guitar still present, but a very different music.
Close to Floh De Cologne or Lied Des Teufels, being a mixture of progressive
rock and theatre in German, with an obscure eccentric feel to it, it's an odd
one all round, but definitely a grower when one becomes accustomed to the
lopsided Zappa-esque pastiche of it all. So fans of real German language
Krautrock, here’s a rarity to savour - enjoy!
As
the tapes had long ago been lost, this album had remained un-reissued until
now. Having learned the techniques and knowhow to do a remaster of clean
enough quality for a CD reissue I was given the go-ahead to do this after the
Cosmic Egg issue of “Made In Germania”. It was a difficult one, as Thomas
Hockling’s original vinyl was only about vg+ condition (but much better
definition that the recording I already had), and the synthesizer sounds make
it all the more a fiddly job. But it was free of any turntable noise or
serious defects. The resulting disc sounds amazingly good, if you ask me!
